Fitness & Sushi

Jul 18, 2021

🟡 Living up to society’s expectations of what your body should look like is exhausting, and hyper-focusing on conforming to societal standards can be harmful to our lives.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

But living on the opposite end of the spectrum, where we don’t care what anyone thinks of us at all, is unrealistic for us as human beings.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

We’re wired to care, and we’re wired to want to conform.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

So rather than spend all of your mental and emotional energy either trying to conform to societal ideals or spend it swimming upstream trying not to care, there’s a balance you can reach that will bring you peace.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

In episode 116 of Fitness & Sushi, Tony and I will teach you how to balance your human need for conformity with your mental health need for body autonomy so you can feel peace with your body.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

In this episode - “How to Balance the Pressures of Social Conformity With Your Need For Body Autonomy”, you'll learn...

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

🔶 Why the goal isn’t to be completely immune to social conformity

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

🔶 How to know if you’re too far to one side of the spectrum

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

🔶 Why moving towards body autonomy will make you feel more fulfilled

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

🔶 How to find your own community that aligns your beliefs with your norms

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

🔶 Why social conformity isn’t necessarily a bad thing

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

🔶 Why Deanna is extra paranoid of Tony’s smiles

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

…and much more!
